U.S. to impose 50% tariffs on “steel-derived products” such as dishwashers, washing machines and refrigerators starting June 23rd

The United States Department of Commerce announced that it would impose tariffs on a variety of steel household appliances, including dishwashers, washing machines and refrigerators, which are “steel-derived products”, effective June 23rd.

According to a summary of the announcement disclosed in advance on the U.S. Federal Register website, these products are considered to be “steel-derived strategic commodities” and will be added to the list of steel-derived products subject to the tariff. Effective June 4, the U.S. 232 tariff on imports of steel and steel derivatives was increased from 25% to 50%.
